BlackBerry PlayBook Gets Facebook, Video Chat App

Facebook app BlackBerry PlaybookWATERLOO, CanadaRIM announced that the BlackBerry PlayBook has two new apps enhancing its marketability. Facebook users now have a fully integrated experience on the device as well as a new video chat application.

The company reports that 30 million BlackBerry users take advantage of the Facebook application for their devices, the PlayBook is taking users to a new level.

Along with the normal Facebook functions the PlayBook is able to connect to an HDTV to display photos and videos in 1080p resolution. The PlayBook is also able to utilize Facebook chat, showing user’s friends side by side on the screen. The tablet offers the same experience with Facebook as one would encounter on a PC.

The video chat application uses Wi-Fi to make and receive calls. It is a full function phone with the added advantage of a video overlay to see the caller. It has One Click functionality to make a call from the contact list, a do not disturb setting, picture in picture so the user can see themselves as well as the other party. During a call the user can switch cameras from the front to the rear, so a called party can see what the caller is seeing. It is a great application for taking advantage of the cameras and screen on the PlayBook.
