Nokia Ovi Maps 3DESPOO, FinlandNokia’s Ovi Maps are well known for offering some of the best mobile navigation services, especially with their full support for offline navigation – now, they are available in 3D.

Nokia has collaborated with C3 Technologies to create a brand new service called Ovi Maps 3D. The service has been launched in a public beta as of now.

Ovi Maps 3D are not meant for smartphones instead its a web browser based solution for desktops. The software is currently available for 20 metropolitan areas spread across the world and will let users enjoy full 3D landscapes. Instead of following the common practice of creating boxes and then overlaying the flat map data over it, Nokia takes hundreds of photos of each object from different angles. These images are then analysed and joined together to make 3D content.

Nokia smartphones compatible with the GPS service may be purchased from http://www.phones4u.co.uk/, who makes several mobile phones available online.

Ovi Maps 3D can be accessed from Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox 3.5+, Google Chrome, and Safari 5+ and is available for the following territories: San Francisco, New York, Miami, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Toronto, London, Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Milan, Venice, Florence, Barcelona, Madrid, Prague and Vienna.
