ATT T-Mobile logoOVERLAND PARK, USASprint officially went on record to oppose the merger of AT&T and T-Mobile which would make AT&T the largest wireless carrier in the U.S.

Sprint released a statement stating that allowing the merger to happen would undo 25 years of innovation by allowing a duopoly between Verizon and AT&T. They compared the two giants to the old Ma Bell duopoly of the past. Wireless companies have created jobs, innovation and investment opportunities and Sprint argues these would all be lost with this merger. Sprints also claims competition would cease or at very least slow down.

While it may slow down, the competition between AT&T and Verizon will most likely never stop. These two companies frequent in ads that attack each other on a consistent basis.  However, the number of wireless carriers in the states is beginning to dwindle. Mergers seemed to be happening very frequently in the past including Sprint buying Nextel.

There will be many trials and hearings on this issue and only time will tell if the U.S. government will allow AT&T’s T-Mobile acquisition to be finalized.
