BlackBerry OS7 roadmapWATERLOO, Canada – A leaked roadmap of where and when RIM wants to take the BlackBerry software has become available. The map illustrates where RIM will be investing its efforts for the remainder of the year. At first glance it looks like a new OS is on the way, plus some work on the Playbook App World.

There are major efforts on the social networking and collaboration areas, with Facebook 2.0 releasing in beta last month, and a beta 2 in the next few weeks. Flickr, Twitter, and “Social Feeds” are also listed as release candidates before the end of May.

On the content side, the App World is shown as a 2.1 release for current BlackBerry devices. Something on the horizon for May/June is BB News 1.1, and a TicketMaster retail application allowing users to browse and securely purchase tickets for events, then loading them to the calendar on the user’s device.

Cloud and platform services look like they are working on the BB Protect modules that will help with backing up data and locating the user’s device in the event of loss or theft.

Regarding a new OS 7, it’s not clear exactly where RIM is going with this, could it be a QNX based system for the BlackBerry Playbook and/or legacy platforms?
