Meego user interfaceGLOBAL – Finnish mobile giant Nokia has announced for some time already its plans to bring the MeeG0 smartphone operating system to the forefront of its product line-up.

MeeGo has been designed to run on high performance mobile computing devices with an aim to bring desktop-like productivity to mobile devices.

The first steps towards this future OS were detailed when the MeeGo Handset UX was finally shown-off.

As can be seen in the videos, the OS is clearly drawing impressions from its close competitors and goes as far as to adopt the best features of Android and Palm WebOS as well. This can be seen in the implementation of the notification interface and the card-based multitasking interface.

The browser provided in the device is powered by Firefox (Fennec) which is the world most famous open-source browser. The N900 is the development platform of choice for MeeGo developers to test their software.

In related news, Nokia’s high-end Maemo-based N900 was finally launched in India early this month. The device, which comes with features such as a 3.5″ WVGA screen and 32GB of inbuilt memory, has been priced competitively in the Indian market. The same device has also come to Tesco, the largest supermarket in UK, who is selling the device on a contract from Vodafone.
