SEOUL, South Korea – With Apple reporting sales of over a million iPads in just one month since its launch, the handheld tablet market seems to be the cynosure of all the major electronic manufacturers today. Smitten by the lure of this segment, Korean giant Samsung is widely rumored to be working on an Android-based tablet under its S-project.

Korean news portal ETNews reports that the tablet will feature a 7″ Super AMOLED screen, making it only the third  device to feature the Super AMOLED screen behind Wave and Galaxy S, both from Samsung. The tablet, which has tentatively been named as S-Pad, is believed to be equipped with Wi-Fi, 3G and  USB connectivity.

As per the ETNews report, Samsung will launch an application store of its own, hosting Android apps suitable for the tablet device. Further, Kyobo Books (Korea’s largest bookstore) is also rumored to be launching an eBook store for the tablet device.

While pricing and launch date aren’t known at this juncture of time, SK Telecom, the official carrier for the tablet, can be expected to subsidize the device to gain inroads into the emerging tablet market.
