LONDON, UK – The news of a phone introducing HD video recording called for our attention a few months ago when it was still a  rumor. Sony Ericsson has now made the device official, as the Vivaz.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz will be launched in selected markets this quarter. It introduces the Xperia X10’s design language with smooth lines and rounded edges, and this is the probable design scheme for future handsets as well.

The HD video recording capability is possible thanks to the great power processor of the ARM Cortex A8 chip, giving it 600MHz processing power and the GP PowerVR SGX graphics chip, as well as 256MB RAM; completed with an 8 megapixel camera. In addition, it will be possible to directly upload the recorded video to YouTube and Picasa, via Wi-Fi or HSPA. Apart from this, image stabilization, smile recognition, continuous autofocusing and geo-tagging are some other photo-specific features.

The display will be a scratch-resistant AMOLED 3.5″ touchscreen, and the Vivaz inherits from its family parent the Satio the operating system, Symbian S60 5th edition, with some minor custom changes.

Some other hardware features comprise of a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD memory card slot and the now standard microUSB port.

This high-end device will be available in four different colors: Silver Moon, Cosmic Black, Galaxy Blue and Venus Ruby. The price has not been announced yet.
