SCHAUMBURG, USA – New images of the new Motorola XT701, under the codename Sholes, have emerged. These renderings are reportedly from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC, China’s version of the FCC. In addition, the device has received certification and is likely to arrive in China and even in Russia in early 2010.

Following a confusion over the camera resolution, between 8 megapixel and 5 megapixel, the latter one was correct, coming along with autofocus and Xenon flash. Further specs are a 3.7″ touchscreen display with a 854×480 pixels in resolution, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, HSDPA connectivity at 10.2mbps and HSUPA at 5.76mbps, FM radio, microSD memory card support up to 32GB, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth, everything powered by a CortexTM-A8 processor.

The smartphone is capable of reproducing audio formats such as MP3/AAC/AACv1/AACv2/AMR-NB/AMR-WB/MIDI/MIDI/WAV/Ogg Vorbis, as well as the video formats MPEG4/H.263/H.264. Despite running on Android 2.1, the actual highlight is the HDMI port, making it able to playback 720p videos, but the handset can also record in this resolution.

According to the report, China Unicom is the carrier that will be taking this device to stores in the Asian country.
