LG IQ Windows Mobile TelusBURNABY, Canada – In order to counterattack Bell’s announcements, today carrier Telus released the new LG IQ smartphone.

The handset runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor making it the fastest carrier-linked phone in North America; it is also a Windows Phone, as it is based on Windows Mobile 6.5. This is the carrier’s first phone running on Microsoft’s smartphone operating system.

Despite of running on this platform, the phone has been subtly customized by LG having both interface changed, as well as widgets. It appears to be paired with LG’s S-Class interface. Further features are a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, apart from the necessary North American HSPA connectivity.

Concluding, the device would be available for CA$100 (US$94) on a three-year plan or CA$500 (US$471) on a completely contract-free plan.

[CA$1 = US$0.942774]
