Nokia ErdosGLOBALCellpassion reports that a new Nokia model in the luxurious 8800 series is on the way. The model is codenamed Erdos and will be released in October.

Reportedly consisting of a single piece of stainless steel, Erdos’ design also features a display covered with glass. The glass will be transparent when the display is active, but look like steel when the screen is turned off.

Under the hood, the phone will host a 320×240-pixel OLED display, a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, A-GPS and 8GB of internal memory (no external memory card support is reported). The phone will also support WLAN and stereo Bluetooth and host a microUSB port.  The latter port will also be used for charging, which is the future industry standard and implemented on all new Nokia models. The phone will run Symbian S60 as its operating system.

Apart from the models produced by Vertu – which are not really Nokia phones although Vertu is owned by Nokia – the handsets in the 8800 series make up Nokia’s luxury offer and prioritizes quality in materials and design over technical features. The most notorious previous model is arguably the 8800 Gold Arte, dressed in 18-carat gold and white leather.

There is no word on what the price will be, but previous 8800 models have been priced between US$1500 and US$3000.
