Nokia X6JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – The Nokia X6 was announced at Nokia World ’09 and is now confirmed for release in South Africa in early November, which means that it will be available well before the Christmas rush.

The new music-oriented model will be distributed both with the Comes With Music service and as a stand-alone device.

The phone will be the fourth Comes With Music enabled model in the South African market, following the 5130, 5530 and 5630 XpressMusic models. In comparison, X6 features much improved hardware and functionality not seen on previous models.

The Nokia X6 will host a 3.2″ capacitive touchscreen, 32GB of internal storage, and a 5 megapixel camera. It will also feature A-GPS and WLAN support. Like previous models, the X6 is fully integrated with the Nokia Music Store and with Ovi Suite for synchronizing music.

Although not officially confirmed, many observers believe the X6 will be delivered with Nokia’s latest software offerings announced at Nokia World; mainly Lifecasting, a service that allows users to update their Facebook status as well as their current location directly from the phone’s homescreen. Since the X6 will run the Symbian S60 5th edition, Lifecasting will at least be available as an update after purchase.

Nokia Comes With music was launched in South Africa in August. The service provides users with unlimited downloads from the Nokia Music Store for one year. The South African version of the store currently holds over five million tracks.

The Nokia X6 will be available from MTN for ZAR 3299 (US$438.52) including VAT, which is a low price compared to previous models.
