Nokia World – Day 1

Nokia N97 MiniSTUTTGART, Germany – Nokia World 09 started yesterday, and as expected, a number of announcements were made.

The full specifications for Nokia Booklet 3G were released. In addition to what has been previously reported, the device will feature a fanless design, an Intel Atom Z530 processor running at 1.6 GHz, 1GB RAM and a 120GB hard drive. The price will be set at EUR 575 before subsidies and taxes.

Two new music oriented models were also introduced: the Nokia X3 and the Nokia X6.

The Nokia X3 will be a budget model priced at EUR115 before subsidies and taxes. It will be the first S40 device to work with Ovi Store, feature a 3.2 megapixel camera, and dedicated music keys.

The Nokia X6 will feature a touchscreen and run Symbian S60v5. Since it will also include 32GB of internal storage, A-GPS, and a 5 megapixel camera the model will probably be an attractive handset for users seeking a more slim alternative to N97/N97 Mini. The X6 will also be included in the Comes With Music program. Its price is set at EUR 459 before subsidies and taxes.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the announcement regarding the Nokia N97 Mini. Although no new information was presented about the device itself – except for an estimated retail price of EUR450 before taxes and subsidies – it was announced as the first Nokia device to feature Lifecasting with Ovi. This service will allow users to update their status and current location on Facebook as well as upload images, all done directly from the phone’s homescreen. Compared to the original N97, the smaller version will also feature other software updates, such as new homescreen widgets and improved scrolling. All software updates – including Lifecasting – will, however, also be available for the original N97.

Nokia World continues tomorrow.
