Review: Blackberry OS Theme of the Week

BlackBerry Combox themeThe Crackberry forums are always a good place to start when searching for a new theme for any Blackberry device. It’s not always the best working stuff, but there are many users who know what they’re doing, and can make excellent apps and themes. An example of one of these is a theme made specifically for one of RIM’s newer models, the Curve 8900.

The ComBox themes have been fairly popular amongst the Crackberry forums. ComBox 3 is of course the third installment in the theme line, and builds upon previous versions quite nicely. It puts the first eight icons on the screen; six on the bottom, and two on the top to the right of the clock. It also places the calendar in on top of the wall paper, in between the top and bottom menus. When selected, it shows the most recent upcoming events.

There are some cons to the theme though. Other buttons aren’t clickable on the front screen, such as the clock and signal. Those have become almost basic for most themes. The other major drawback is the lack of ability to customize. The user has to deal with the default wallpaper (which isn’t bad) and cannot use a custom of their own.

Perhaps in later versions, these problems will be fixed. For now though, the theme looks good and is fairly efficient.
